Canadian Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino testified at a the House of Commons Standing Committee on Public Safety hearing on proposed gun control legislation. The bill would create a national handgun freeze in the country. Minister Mendicino called gun control a “complex problem” and said, “There are no easy or simple solutions to eradicating gun crime. I readily acknowledge that, but ... we need a comprehensive strategy.” He addressed several issues including steps taken to stop gun trafficking at the border, crime prevention, banning assault rifles, and strengthening “red flag” laws. close
