As British Prime Minister Liz Truss faced intense criticism and calls to resign, the House of Commons convened to discuss the current economic situation and hear about a new plan of action from Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt. The prime minister was not present for a majority of the proceeding. Penny Mordaunt, leader of the House of Commons, instead stood in for her. Even after Prime Minister Truss appeared later on, she sat there silently and left as her finance minister took questions from members. The prime minister took office September 6, 2022. close
