Former Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) and former treasury secretary during the Obama administration, Jack Lew, discussed the pending debate over raising the nation’s debt limit. Both former officials agreed that negotiations would need to happen between Republicans and Democrats in regard to appropriations, but Mr. Lew added, “I don’t think the threat of default ... is the way to do it.” The Council on Foreign Relations hosted the event. close
