Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel gave remarks from an IRS facility in McLean, Virginia, on modernizing the IRS. Topics included tax enforcement for the wealthy, the agency’s filing-season goals, and paperless processing. In regard to the last issue, Commissioner Werfel called handling paper the agency’s “kryptonite.” In addition, Treasury Secretary Yellen commented on Fitch, a global credit rating agency, downgrading the credit of the United States from AAA to AA+. close
