Secretary of State Antony Blinken delivered remarks on the ongoing Israel-Hamas War at a United Nations Security Council meeting in New York City. He expressed the United States' resolution, or formal opinion, on addressing the war: recognizing the right of states to defend themselves against terrorism, the need to protect civilians, determination to prevent the conflict from spreading, and redoubling efforts to work on a two-state solution between Israelis and Palestinians. Moreover, Secretary Blinken called for clearer condemnation from the council regarding Hamas’s terrorist attack against Israel. “Where is the outrage? Where is the revulsion? Where is the rejection? Where is the explicit condemnation of these horrors?” he said. “No member of this council--no nation in this entire body--could or would tolerate the slaughter of its people.” close
