Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas stressed the need for the House to pass the Senate’s bipartisan immigration bill as he faced criticism from Republicans for his handling of the immigration crisis at the southern border during a House Homeland Security hearing on the president’s fiscal year 2025 budget request for the Department of Homeland Security. Other topics discussed included flood insurance, cybersecurity concerns, preventing online child exploitation, workforce challenges, fentanyl interdiction at the southern border, and threats posed by gangs and cartels. This hearing ended shortly before the House delivered impeachment articles against Secretary Mayorkas to the Senate. close
