The U.S. House of Representatives reconvened at noon continuing the day’s session. The House took time to offer one minute speeches to members who could use their time to speak on any topic. Following this the House took up debate on the continuation of the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday Commission, which carried out efforts to make the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. a nationally accepted day of celebration. The House also debated the addition of sections of the Rio Grande in New Mexico and the Farmington River in Connecticut as components of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System. The House passed all of these measures by suspension of rules foregoing a vote on them. The House then adjourned until 10am the following morning. close
