At a health care rally in Jersey City, New Jersey, President William Jefferson Clinton stressed that America must join the ranks of all other advanced countries and provide universal health care coverage for its citizens. The President emphasized that his plan is about private insurance, not socialized medicine. Focusing on the success of Hawaii’s state health care plan, the President noted that health insurance is 30 percent less expensive there than it is in the United States on average. He added that, in Hawaii, the healthy population is greater, the infant mortality rate is down, and small business is booming. The president and the other speakers stood on a platform overlooking the Hudson Bay with New York City in the background. close
