Astronauts walked in space to test improvements in space suits and to practice manipulating objects manually outside the spacecraft. Temperatures outside the shuttle ranged between -90 and -125 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition to the communications heard between the Discovery crew and mission control, NASA Spokeswoman Kari Fluegel provide commentary. Astronauts Michael Foale and Bernard Harris took part in the spacewalk. During this mission Mr. Bernard became the first African-American to take part in an extra-vehicular activity. close
