Attorney General Janet Reno and Assistant Attorney General Anne Bingaman spoke with reporters about a federal judge’s decision to throw out a proposed anti-trust settlement between the Justice Department and Microsoft, the world’s largest computer software company. The Justice Department conducted a four-year investigation of Microsoft, following competitors' complaints that the company uses its position in the industry to bolster its sales of software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheet programs, by announcing their availability before the product completion. close
