Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Mr. Stuart talked about current issues, including the current bitterness of political discourse in Washington. In the newspaper roundtable, Mr. MacNeil and Mr. Lehrer talked about current headlines, including the 50th anniversary of the United Nations.
