Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Mr. Seib talked about current headlines, including Rep. Kasich’s remarks on “Meet the Press” on Sunday. In the newspaper roundtable, Ms. Lee and Mr. Williams talked about current events, including the budget negotiations and minority issues. In the next segment, Ms. O’English talked about Project Vote Smart, and how people can obtain information on candidates and elected officials on the Internet. In the next segment, Mr. Yepsen talked about the results of Saturday’s Iowa debate and the Iowa caucus race. In the last segment, Ms. Roman and Mr. Mapes from Portland talked about the race for the Senate in Oregon to replace Senator Packwood. It will be the first state election conducted completely by mail. close
