The Senate Transportation Committee heard testimony from Transportation Secretary Federico Pena and Federal Aviation Administrator David Hinson. They were asked about the FAA safety inspection program and Department of Transportation oversight of the agency. There were a number of specific questions regarding ValuJet airlines. Much of the testimony focused on former Inspector General Mary Schiavo’s assertion that her concerns about the safety of ValuJet airlines went unheeded by Secretary Pena. close
