House Government Reform and Oversight Subcommittee members talked with reporters about the possibility of a computer malfunction when the year changes from 1999 to 2000. Representative Steve Horn, R-CA, chair of the House Government Reform Information and Technology Subcommittee, announced the results of a survey of 24 major governmental departments. The survey requested status reports on when and at what expense the departments planned to address the problem of computer software which could not recognize the year 2000. Following prepared remarks, the subcommittee members took questions from the press. close
