Chilean President Eduardo Frei addressed a joint meeting of Congress, asking that the U.S. support free trade with Latin America in an expansion of the North American Free Trade Agreement. He said that Chile and other South American countries are not interested in economic battles with the U.S. His speech was interrupted by applause twice.
