The co-sponsors of legislation to allow cameras in federal courtrooms briefed reporters on the legislation. Under the act, the presiding judge would have the authority to allow cameras, but would not be required to do so. They stressed that the courts and judges need to be opened to public awareness as state courts and Congress have been over the past twenty years. close
