Representative Tom Delay (R-TX) and other Republicans reacted to Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich’s (R-GA) plan to secure a loan from Bob Dole to personally repay $300,000 to the Ethics Committee for the cost of its investigation of him for which he remained directly responsible. They applauded the speaker for his commitment to pay with personal funds and former Senator Dole for giving him a loan, and criticized Representative David Bonior (D-MI) for his investigation of Speaker Gingrich. close
