The National Park Service sponsored a Memorial Day ceremony at the USS Arizona Memorial, which commemorates the sacrifices made by U.S. servicemen during the Japanese invasion of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. During the ceremony awards were presented to outstanding volunteers at the USS Arizona Memorial who were recognized for their work over the past year. Commander William Sutton spoke and said that the people who sacrificed their lives at Pearl Harbor and in all battles were true patriots and then recalled naval heroes of past wars. He then spoke about the future of the United States Navy. close
