The National Transportation Safety Board held a public meeting to discuss the final accident report for the crash of flight 592 in the Florida Everglades on May 11,1996. The report concludes that a cargo of chemical oxygen generators caused a fire which damaged the controls. The report also states that the maintenance contractor is responsible for putting the hazardous cargo on board; Valujet is resposible for improperly overseeing its contractor; and the FAA is responsible for not requiring smoke detectors in cargo holds. close
