Leading scholars discussed the impact of Tocqueville’s writings on religion and society during the 1830s and the roles democracy, religion and other issues play in modern America. Dr. Thiemann moderated the panel’s discussion on many issues along the lines of Tocqueville’s works. Tocqueville’s view of the roles of voluntary associations (including religious groups), political parties and his role as an historian were discussed. Following the discussion, the panelists took questions from the audience. close
