Former Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, a 2020 the Democratic presidential candidate, spoke at a National Press Club luncheon speech. In his remarks, he criticized fellow presidential candidate and Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) for promoting democratic socialism, saying, “We will not solve our problems by endlessly expanding government or by demonizing the private sector. Mr. Hickenlooper also discussed his record on women’s reproductive rights, gun control, methane regulations and cannabis. Regarding abortion, he said it is a woman’s "inalienable” right and said he would repeal the Hyde Amendment, which bans federal funding to pay for abortions.

The Senate blocked a bill requiring medical care for the infant in the case of a failed abortion, several Republican and Democratic senators spoke about the legislation.

Bloomberg News Supreme Court reporter Greg Stohr spoke by phone about the Court’s decision to not hear a case regarding Medicaid payments to local Planned Parenthood chapters in two states.

Planned Parenthood Action Fund hosted a presidential candidate forum focusing on access to abortion and women’s reproductive health care. This portion of the event featured the following 2020 Democratic presidential candidates: Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), entrepreneur Andrew Yang, author and activist Marianne Williamson, Representative Eric Swalwell (D-CA), Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Representatives Tim Ryan (D-OH) and Seth Moulton (D-MA), and Senator Michael Bennet (D-CO).
