Indiana Governor Mike Pence (R) spoke to reporters about the state’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which he signed into law the previous week. He asked the state legislature to amend the law to “makes it clear” that the law does not give businesses the right to deny services to anyone. He blamed criticism that the law would allow discrimination against gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender citizens on inaccurate reporting.

Secretary of State John Kerry released the 2014 Annual Report on International Religious Freedom that highlights the current state of religious freedom and tolerance around the world. He noted that one of the troubling trends identified in the 2014 report was terrorism in the name of religion and anti-Semitism in Europe. Following his remarks, Ambassador at Large for Religious Freedom David Saperstein spoke in greater detail about the findings and took questions from reporters.
