George H.W. Bush discussed his World War II Navy career with press secretary Marlin Fitzwater. Mr. Bush, former president and vice president under Ronald Reagan, flew 58 combat missions in the Pacific theater as a Naval torpedo bomber pilot, was shot down and rescued by a submarine in 1944, and received the Distinguished Flying Cross.
