Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin spoke to reporters at the White House about the ongoing trade negotiations with China. The secretary said the two sides discussed “very, very specific items” for the first time since the trade negotiations began, which include auto tariffs, agricultural products, intellectual property theft, and currency protections, among others. Secretary Mnuchin said the importation of Chinese-made fentanyl into the U.S. was also among the topics President Trump and Chinese President Xi discussed at the G-20 Summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The secretary also expressed confidence that the U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement would be ratified by Congress, but added that if it is not, he expects the president to withdraw from NAFTA. close
