Charles “CQ” Brown, and Defense Comptroller Mike McCord testified at a House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense hearing on President Biden’s Fiscal year 2025 Department of Defense budget request. When asked what is needed to help Israel defend itself, Secretary Austin said, “The most important thing that we can do right now is to pass the supplemental and that will provide us the opportunity to continue to provide security assistance to Israel.” Secretary Austin also stressed the importance of continued support for Ukraine and the threat Russian President Vladimir Putin poses if Ukraine loses. Other topics included modernization efforts, submarine and shipbuilding, health care for servicemembers and families, challenges posed by China. Other issues included the need for dependable, sustained funding and how continuing resolutions and budget delays affect military readiness and national security.
