Texas and American Expansionism
Mr. Goetzmann is the author of When the Eagle Screamed: The Romantic Horizon in American Expansionism, 1800-1860, published by University of Oklahoma Press. In his book he discusses the struggle for Texas and Oregon, the war with Mexico, the postwar adventures and skirmishes in the Caribbean, the penetration of South America and the Far East, the competition for Antarctica and the drawing of the Pacific border at Hawaii.
Mr. Fehrenback is the author of Lone Star: A History of Texas and the Texans. In this book he re-creates the Texas sage from before the Spanish and French invasions to the heyday of the cotton and cattle empires. He explores the emergence of Texas as a republic, the vote for the secession before the Civil War and the state’s readmission to the Union after the War.
