The Senate Armed Service heard testimony from nominees, Lt. Gen. James T. Hill, USA, for appointment to the grade of general and assignment as Commander in Chief, United States Southern Command, and Vice Adm. Edmund P. Giambastiani, Jr., USN, for appointment to the grade of admiral and assignment as Commander in Chief, United States Joint Forces Command. The nominees testified and answered questions in their own behalf. Lt. Gen. Hill was introduced by Senator Bob Graham (D-FL), and Vice Adm. Giambastiani was introduced by Senator John Warner (R-VA) The senior military officers testified about their nominations to new command positions. The addressed such issues as conflict in Colombia, military training, and potential military engagement overseas. close
