International programming features the resignations of British prime ministers.

On Thursday, September 7, 2006, Tony Blair announced he would step down as British Prime Minister within the next year, a day after several junior members of his Labor Party government resigned over his refusal to set a timetable for departure. A portion of that day’s BBC “Newsnight” program about Mr. Blair’s announcement was shown.

British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher decided to leave office in 1990. Like Tony Blair, she made her decision because of a leadership challenge from within her own party.
