Jim Schaefer talked by remote video from Detroit about the hearing later in the day on the removal of Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. He explained the timeline of events which led up to the hearing being held by Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm to consider removing the mayor from office as well as the details of the hearing. He also responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. On January 24, 2008, Mr. Schaefer, along with fellow Detroit Free-Press reporter M.L. Elrick, broke the story involving the mayor lying under oath about a personal relationship with his chief of staff during a settlement trial of a Detroit police whistle-blower. close
