Former Representative Lee Hamilton (D-IN) was honored with the Theodore Roosevelt-Woodrow Wilson Award for Public Service by the Council of the American Historical Association. This was the seventh time the award had been presented to an individual for making extraordinary contributions to the study, teaching, and public understanding of history.

Former Representative Hamilton was not present at the ceremony. A pre-recorded video was shown of him being interviewed at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars by Jim Grossman. He talked about the role of history in his career, transparency in government and access to documents, and the role of historians in educating the public, officials, and politicians in the history of public policy issues.

This was the beginning of the opening plenary session of the 125th annual meeting of the American Historical Association, held at the Marriott Boston Copley Place. close
