Central and Special Operations Commands leaders testified on funding for 2014 military programs. General James Mattis, the head of military operations in the Middle East and Central Asia, said that his personal recommendation to President Obama was that the U.S. should leave 13,600 troops in Afghanistan after 2014. He also told the committee that military plans for taking out Iran’s nuclear program are “fully developed” if negotiations on that issue were to fail. close
