Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said on the Senate floor that Republicans were holding up executive and judicial nominations. He then engaged in a debate with Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Minority Whip John Cornyn (R-TX) about approving nominees, the filibuster, the change in Senate rules on filibustering nominees, and who was responsible for gridlock in the Senate.

This occured during debate on the timing of a post-cloture vote on Michelle Friedland to be a U.S. circuit court judge for the Ninth Circuit. Republicans had declined a unanimous consent request to yield back time on the nomination. close
