The Supreme Court heard oral argument in ABC v. Aereo, docket number 13-461. In 2012 Aereo launched a service that lets consumers remotely record and watch local broadcast TV on computers, iPads, and smartphones using a system of miniature antennas. The court was to decide if Aereo’s technology, offered on a commercial basis to the general public, was more like individual home recordings, which is not an infringement on copyright, or more like an unauthorized re-transmission of copyrighted programming, which is an infringement.
