Dion Nissenbaum talked about his Wall Street Journal story, “U.S. Sends Mixed Signals on Syria Safe Zone.” ISIS* militants were engaged in a three-week siege of Kobane, Syria, a Kurdish-majority town near the border with Turkey. Turkey and the U.S. were each pressing the other to create a safe zone to deal with the resulting refugee crisis, with neither country willing to take the lead in saving Kobane. Mr. Nissenbaum also discussed other developments in the strategy of the U.S. and its allies to combat ISIS.

*The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), also known as the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), is a militant group that has called itself the Islamic State. close
