The topic of opioid addiction was on the agenda of the nation’s governors at their annual winter meeting in Washington, DC. They talked with a panel about expanding treatment, sharing medical data among states, the role of physicians who prescribe pain relief medication and confronting the stigma associated with opioid use. Guest speakers included Michael Botticelli, who is the White House National Drug Control Policy Director. Joining him were representatives from Walgreens pharmacy, the American Medical Association and the founder of an organization dedicated to helping those suffering from addiction. The discussion was moderated by Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker who chairs the National Governors Association’s Health and Human Services Committee. close
