Secretary John Kerry released the State Department’s 2015 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices. He identified the Middle East and the conflict in Syria as having the most widespread violations. He said the U.S. is committed to making sure that those responsible are held accountable, and that a political solution in Syria is achieved. Secretary Kerry also denounced the use of torture, saying the U.S. opposes it in any form, and at any time. Assistant Secretary Tom Malinowski took questions from reporters following Secretary Kerry’s remarks. He expressed concern about Russia and China, saying their recent violations could inspire other countries to follow their lead. close
