Emergent President and CEO Robert Kramer said a mixup occurred, because the facility was was producing the two vaccines simultaneosuly, which he called “unprecedented.” Mr. Kramer testified the contamination impacted about 15 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. He spoke about remediation and said Emergent would be prepared to begin production “within a matter of days.” Also participating was Emergent Founder and Executive Chair Faud El-Hibri. The two faced questions about the origins of the company’s federal contract, executive compensation and Emergent stock sales, the number of COVID-19 vaccines the company had delivered to date, and the importance of intellectual property protections.
