White House National Economic Council Director Brian Deese joined Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre at the daily briefing to preview President Biden’s upcoming State of the Union address. Director Deese said the president will highlight the economy, including job creation and the work done to lower inflation and energy prices, as well as acknowledge that there is still work to be done and the impact on the economy of recent legislation, such as the Inflation Reduction Act. The press secretary began the briefing by expressing condolences to those who lost family and loved ones in the recent earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria. Several topics were addressed during the briefing, including the recently shot down Chinese balloon and its impact on U.S.-China relations, the economy and debt ceiling, and the Republican’s economic agenda. close
