Acting Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Billy Nolen testified on January’s Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) system outage, which briefly led to thousands of delayed flights, before the Senate Commerce Committee. Administrator Nolen explained what went wrong saying, “Contract personnel unintentionally deleted files while working to correct synchronization issues ... We have found no evidence of a cyber attack or other malicious intent.” He also discussed FAA modernization efforts to prevent similar incidents in the future, such as new procedures in the NOTAM pilot-alert system. close
