Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and leadership colleagues spoke to reporters following their weekly party lunch meeting, their first press briefing after August recess. They discussed the legislative agenda and applauded bipartisan efforts to move appropriations bills out of committee. Regarding the possibility of a government shutdown, Leader Schumer said, “I beg my House Republican colleagues to follow the Senate’s lead. ... the only way to avoid a shutdown is through bipartisanship.” close
