Mr. Paxton’s lead attorney, Tony Buzbee, said the trial was a “political witch hunt” and called former employees and whistleblowers in the Texas Office of the Attorney General “disgruntled ex-staffers.” The lead impeachment manager, Texas State Rep. Andrew Murr (R), delivered the closing statement for the prosecution, playing clips of witness testimony and presenting evidence that he said proves the 16 articles of impeachment.
Mr. Paxton was impeached in May 2023 in the state’s House of Representatives over accusations of misconduct, including bribery and obstruction of justice.
