Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) spoke to reporters about House Republicans' ongoing efforts to elect a new speaker amid the removal of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from the position. At the time of this event, Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) had won the party’s nomination, 113-99. Rep. Burchett said that Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH)--who had the second most votes in the nomination--would need to talk to his supporters in the House about rallying behind Rep. Scalise in order for him to get a majority of votes to officially become speaker. close
