Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) criticized his own party during a House floor speech, challenging his Republican colleagues to “name one meaningful, significant thing” the GOP majority had done since taking control of the House in January. His remarks came the day after the House passed a continuing resolution to avoid a government shutdown on November 17. The following day, 19 House Republicans blocked consideration of a bill to fund the Justice Department, mostly because of objections from members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, of which Rep Roy is a member. House Republican leaders the previous week also delayed plans to move forward on two funding bills because of internal GOP divisions. close
