House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (NY), House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (MN), and other House Republicans spoke with reporters about policy priorities as well as the state of budget negotiations on Capitol Hill. On funding the government, Speaker Johnson commented on the recent pattern of using continuing resolutions to avert any potential government shutdown: “I wanted no more CRs until we can move this process forward. We’ve achieved that. ... this is a better agreement than we had.” He also addressed the southern border and foreign aid ahead of his White House meeting with President Biden, saying he would tell the president, “Border, border, border. We have to take care of our own house. We have to secure our own border before we talk about doing anything else.” close
