Former Special Counsel Robert Hur defended his decision to reference President Biden’s mental state in his report during a hearing before the House Judiciary Committee. The attorney general appointed Mr. Hur in January 2023 to investigate the president’s handling of classified documents after leaving office as vice president in the Obama administration. Ultimately, no charges were filed against President Biden. Former President Donald Trump was also investigated for his handling of classified documents after leaving office, and charges were filed against him by Special Counsel Jack Smith. Many Republicans on the committee pointed to this, with many calling it unfair and unjust. Democrats argued the two situations were different and defended President Biden and his mental acuity. close
