Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) spoke on the chamber floor in response to Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) remarks in which he called for new Israeli government elections and said that Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Nentanyahu was an obstacle to a two-state solution. Senator Van Hollen spoke in support of Senator Schumer’s remarks and stated that “rejecting the idea of Palestinian statehood and sovereignty is a grave mistake.” Senator Graham called Senator Schumer’s remarks “earth-shatteringly bad” and said that it was “hurtful” for the majority leader of the United State Senate to call on “the people of Israel to overthrow their government.” close
