The House Administration Committee held a hearing on crime in Washington, D.C., and its impact on congressional operations and visitors. Witnesses, including Capitol Police Chief Thomas Manger and D.C. Police Union Chair Gregg Pemberton, outlined the causes for violent crime in Washington, discussed workforce shortages and morale in the Metropolitan Police Department, and overviewed ways that the Capitol Police partners with local police departments nationwide to protect congressmembers. In addition, they discussed concerns about repeat offenders, reduced sentencing laws, and coordination between federal and local police in Washington. close
