“This is a travesty, and I’m disgusted,” said Israeli Ambassador to the U.N. Gilad Erdan at the conclusion of his remarks following the United Nations Security Council passing a resolution demanding a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas War. The ambassador criticized the resolution, saying it “undermines the efforts” in securing the release of the hostages. However, Palestinian Ambassador to the U.N. Riyad Mansour welcomed the resolution and said, “there is no humanity when our lives are treated as expendable … our agony is caused by Israel’s actions.” The United States was the only country to abstain from the vote. U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Linda Thomas-Greenfield said despite support for the resolution, the U.S. chose to abstain because they did not agree with everything in the resolution. close
