President Bill Clinton welcomed President Leonid Kuchma to the White House for summit meetings and the signing of various agreements. The president congratulated President Kuchma on his country’s achievements since regaining independence three years ago. The president reaffirmed the United States support for the Ukraine and its independence and territorial integrity. President Kuchma thanked President Clinton for his support and talked about Ukraine’s difficult struggle to create a democratic state and free economy after the fall of the Soviet Union. President Kuchma spoke in his native language and an interpreter provided English language translation. close
