Two amendments aimed at reducing prescription drug prices fell short in the Senate's debate on the budger resolution to repeal the Affordable Care Act. The first amendment, offered by Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN), would have allowed for the importation of drugs from Canada, as well as changes to federal health programs. The amendment went down 49-49. An alternative amendmend, offered by Senators Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), would also have allowed for the importation of drugs from Canada with a valid presicription. The amendment went down 46-52. It got the support of 12 Republicans, but lost the support of 13 Democrats. close
